The multidisciplinary team is a group of highly specialised healthcare workers from doctors to nurses, radiographers to physiotherapists. At the Sydney Adventist Hospital, we have an extensive list of specialists represented. Surgical oncologists, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists, radiographers and the radiologists, pathologists are all on board. These sessions are held at 7 am and we discuss cases; patient by patient starting from their presentation, clinical findings and their imaging is displayed on our big screen. The Ultrasounds, Mammograms and MRI images are looked at in detail. We then go through the pathology slides and discuss management. The aim is to provide an individualised consensus for each particular patient. This way we can determine which patient might need a particular surgery, type of further therapy and even which patient might benefit from enrolling in a clinical trial.
These meetings have been hybrid for the past two years where many more people can join in online and we have the opportunity to have robust discussions which help in obtaining the best possible outcome.
