Prof Krishnan's philosophy is 'You Come First,' it is the guiding principle for her breast surgery and surgical oncology service in Sydney and Canberra.

You may have had breast cancer screening before this appointment.

The process starts with booking an appointment, and the breast cancer consultant team will answer questions regarding the initial visit.

You then progress to meet her, either face to face or via telehealth for the following.

consultation, a detailed discussion (bring your previous images/test results)
clinical examination using bedside tests like ultrasound
appropriate diagnosis
thorough explanation and implications of treatment
further investigations and management as necessary

Associate Professor Krishnan has meticulously honed her surgical skills; 'skin to skin,' she performs every procedure with precision and care. “ At first, I wanted to be a teacher. But as a teenager, I remember feeling helpless in a hospital ward, trying to understand the situation. My grandfather was unwell, and the doctors were so busy and hard at work, but somehow, he seemed to come last.

It made an impression; I vowed to be different.

As soon as I started studying medicine, everything came together, and I immediately knew what I wanted to become. And as a young medical student in the operating theatre, I realised that this is where the science and art of medicine come together.

Highly recommend Dr Sandra Krishnan. She is so caring, friendly and has great bedside manner. Getting a breast cancer diagnosis was both shocking and difficult to accept and deal with. But Dr Krishnan has made my journey smooth and I honestly could not ask for someone better to be by my side. Highly recommended Dr Krishnan. She has the MOST incredible manner that comes from her inner kindness. I had an abscess from breastfeeding and was at the public hospital for 5 days (with a newborn). When confronted with the need for breast cancer surgery I was so fortunate to have found Dr Krishnan. While my consultations have taken place in Canberra, my surgery was in Sydney, and just 7 days after we met! Dr Krishnan is cheery, empathetic, positively reassuring, thorough and an amazingly skilled surgeon. In addition to removing the tumour from my left breast, in the same operation she also did a reduction on my right breast, so that after surgery I had symmetrisation. This removed the need for further surgery further down the track; a real bonus. In addition to my face-to face consultations, Dr Krishnan has continued to monitor my progress with phone calls as well as answering questions I had via email. I am so thankful that Dr Krishnan performed and surgery and can’t recommend her highly enough. Furthermore, she is a skilled teacher and I was delighted to be able to assist her when she brought medical students with her on her hospital rounds. In her interactions with these students, I could see her high level of engagement and her desire to instil in them a deep concern for all those in their care.

A/P Krishnan is an absolute godsend and I could not recommend her highly enough! After being initially diagnosed with breast cancer A/P Krishnan saw me within a few hours and by the end of the consultation had a medical plan in place and the information I needed. Dr Krishnan performed two operations in relation to my breast cancer. The first was to remove the cancer and the second was to remove a number of lymph nodes as the cancer had spread to that region. Sandra was able to ensure that although I had two operations only one scar is evident and it is very neat and placed along a natural crease line of the breast so as to appear almost invisible. Sandra's after care has been impeccable and she contacted me on a weekend to let me know that the second operation had been successful and that the cancer had not spread further into any other areas of my body which was a great relief. I continue to see Sandra re follow ups once a year since 2015. I would highly recommend Sandra for her professional skills and bedside manner.

I was recently referred to Northern Surgical Oncology for investigation of two lesions on my upper back. The surgeon to whom I was originally referred, was on leave and I was seen by Dr Sandra Krishnan. Dr Krishnan greeted me and could tell immediately that I was extremely nervous and apprehensive about the diagnosis and likelihood of subsequent necessary surgery. Dr Krishnan showed a calming and emphatic demeanour as she explained the diagnosis and proposed surgery and reassured me that she would be conducting the surgery and would take good care of me. The resulting extensive surgery was totally successful and left minimal scarring and I can’t recommend Dr Krishnan highly enough for making the whole experience as pleasant and non frightening as possible.
